Abstract
The study attempts to analyze and identify the slangs used in American Pie I movie. This study proposes problems of the slang words used in the dialogue, the domain and the function of slang words. Language is not only for spoken activity but also for written ones. For example, oral language used in the script movie. That is why the writer focused on the research about the use of slang words in the movie. Hopefully, this study will be useful for students of English department, especially to help them understand the slang words used in American Pie I movie. In order to bring this study to achieve its purpose, the writer formulates three research problems, those are: what are the meaning of the slang words used in the dialogues, the domain used in the dialogues, and the function of slang words used in the American Pie I movie. This research applied library research and documentary study. The writer analyzed the slang words and the meaning of the slang words from the movie entitled “American Pie I”. From the data that have been analyzed, it was found that there are one hundred forty four (144) slang words used in the American Pie 1 movie. In addition, domain is the typical utterances that are used by the speakers. Domain can distinguish the same or different words. Thus, the writer suggests other researchers to conduct about this topic in different aspect such as to identify slang words used in song lyrics or other works.
