Abstract

This research is entitled “FIGURATIVE EXRESSIONS USED IN AVENGED SEVENFOLD “NIGHTMARE” ALBUM. It analyzes the lyrics in Avenged Sevenfold songs, which have figurative expressions. The objective of this study is to determine the types of figurative language in the Avenged Sevenfold. The researcher used documentation as the method of collecting the data. This method was proposed to collect the figurative that are expressed in Avenged Sevenfold songsfourth album Nightmare. Based on the result of analysis, it can be concluded that in creating the song lyricsAvenged Sevenfold has not used all types of figurative expressions. There are 22figurative language used in Avenged Sevenfold songs consisting of Hyperbole 43 data (32.3308%), Personification 17 data (12.782%),Preterito 19 (14.2857%),Simile 1 data (0.75188%), Irony 3 data (2.25564%), Paradox 3 data (2,25564%), Pleonasm 14 data (10.5263%), Allegory 11 (8.27068%). Enumerasio 1 (0,75188%), Sarcasm 3 data (2.25564%), Pars prototo 2 data (1.50376%), Totum Proparte 1 data (0.75188%), Interminus Contradiction2 data (1.50376%), Apofasis 3 data (2.25564%), Climax 1 data (0,75188%), Association 2 data (1.50376%), Symbolic 2 data (1,50%), Antilesis 1 data (0.75i88%), Litotes 1 data (0.75188%), Anthitesis 1 data (0.75188%), Rhetorical 1 data (0.75188%), Innuendo 1 data (0.75188%).
