Abstract

This research paper is Bound Morpheme Realized in The New York Times’ Article “Google in Deal for Songza, a Music Playlist Service”, Published on July 1 , 2014. The objectives of the study are to find out and the process of bound morphemes realized in the article entitled Google in Deal for Songza, a Music Playlist Service, The New York Times, July 1 st , 2014.  As a descriptive research, the study was conducted by collecting many relevant data and information about the topic or problem of the study. The data collection used the following steps: library study; and documentation. For the data analysis steps are: reading, classifying, analyzing, and concluding. The data were taken from in the article Google in Deal for Songza, a Music Playlist Service, The New York Times, dated 1 st July 2014. The researcher observed from sentences from that article. The researcher analyzed words that have bound morphemes used in the article Google in Deal for Songza, a Music Playlist Service, The New York Times dated 1 st July 2014. This study focuses on bound morphemes based on McCarthy’s Framework (2002:20). It is found out that 112 sentences which contain morphemes in the data. From those sentences, there are 122 morphemes found. The researcher presents the type of bound morphemes based on McCarthy’s framework (2002:20) used in article “Google in Deal for Songza, a Music Play Service”, on July 1 st , 2014. The most dominant is inflectional morpheme with 84 morphemes or 68,85%. It happened because the text’s genre is news report; so, the data contain a lot past tense form, gerund, possessive, present form and plural form. The least dominant in the data is derivational with 38 morphemes or 31,15%. There are 36 suffix and only 2 prefix found in the data. st
