Abstract

This thesis entitled Word Formation found in Jakarta Post’s Headline news on January 12, 2011, is intended to answer two problems: 1) To find out the word formations in the Jakarta Post's Headline news on January 12, 2011, 2) To find out the function of the word formations found in Jakarta Post's Headlines news on January 12, 2011. The reasons to analyze this article are: first, studying morphology is important for English department students because morpology will guide the students to construct the meaningful unit of language to arrange a sentence according to grammatical system. Second, this article has many word formation processes to learn, and it will help us to understand the modification of each word. So we need to review concept about morphological analysis, because morphological analysis is an analysis which concerns with the form especially internal construction which occured in the words through certain process. This study uses qualitative study to analyze the data. To facilitate the process of analysis, the methods in this study are divided into two parts. They are method of the data collection by having library study, from the documentation for collecting the data and method of data analysis The writer concluded that word formation which had been found in the article of “ Jakarta Post’s on January 12, 2011” changed the meaning and also the word class of the words. So, there is a function of word formation from additional internal construction of the words. The function is to change the word class of the words and also the meaning.
