Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the types and meanings of slang words in the Family Guy TV series which discusses the unique experience of the Griffin family consisting of Peter, Lois, Meg, Chris, Stewie, and Brian, his talking pet dog, with research questions, (1) What are the types of slang and the meanings of slang words used by the characters in the Family Guy series? (2) What is the formation process applied to the slang words in the Family Guy series? The writer uses a descriptive qualitative method to help the data collection process. The theory that was employed to identify the category of slang is the theory of Allan & Burridge (2006) which explains that there are 5 types of slang words, namely Flippant, Clipping, Acronym, Imitative, and Fresh and Creative. In the writer's study, it was found that there were a total of 106 Slang Words consisting of 22 Flippant, 18 Clipping, 3 Acronym, 32 Imitative, and 31 Fresh and Creative.
