Abstract
This study examines The Interpersonal Meaning of Tim McGraw’s Song Lyric “LiveLike You Were Dying” has three research questions, i.e. (1) How is tenor realized inthe song? (2) How is mood realized in the song? (3) How is pronoun system realized in the song? The writer has an interest to use the song lyric of Tim McGraw “Live LikeYou Were Dying” because there are so many clauses written in different sentencetypes and they may give a lot of knowledge related to considerable study. The writetries to explore how interpersonal meaning is achieved from the perspective ofFunctional Grammar and with the focus on mood, modal auxiliary, and personapronouns in pronoun system. The theory proposed by Halliday (2009) was used as theframework to analyze interpersonal meaning built in Tim McGraw’s song lyric “LiveLike You Were Dying”. The object of the study was analyzed using descriptivequalitative research as a method of study. The result of the study shows that dominanclauses in Tim McGraw’s Song Lyric “Live Like You Were Dying” are major clausewhich have percentage 82 % and minor clause has percentage 18 %. The moodsystems in the song lyric are declarative mood that consists of unmarked declarativeclauses (80 %) as the majority and interrogative (20). Polarity positive (98%) andpolarity negative (2%). Last, the pronoun systems used mostly are “I” (48 %) used 22 times and “You” (17 %) adopted 8 times.
