Abstract
This thesis studies derivational morpheme found in The Jakarta Post’ article. Derivational is the formation of new word by addding affixes to thother word and the changes of word class or word meaning. Here the writefocused on the process of derivational morpheme. The writer found in 56derivational morphemes in the data. In this thesis, the writer analyzed classified and concluded. The writer also used library study to fininformation and some theories related with the object of the analysis. In this thesis, the writer used descriptive analysis. The object of manalysis is one article taken from The Jakarta Post. The techniques incollecting the data in this study included reading the article, underlines in thdata, and the last, the listing of the data in The Jakarta Post’s article. The data analysis shows, there are some affixes used in the derivational morpheme, they are –ly, -ion,-ment, -al,-ical, -ive, im-,-ity, -able,-ism,-or,fully,re-, -in,-ian and –ese. One example of derivational morpheme is –ly suffix, -ly suffix is attached to the spesific stem and it will phonologically change. Finally, the writer can conclude that derivational morphemes found in The Jakarta Post ’s article “The 21 st Century Arab Awakening?” By: JeanPierre Lehmann, Dated: Tuesday, February 1,2011” are –ly, -ion,-ment, -al,- ical, -ive, im-,-ity, -able,-ism,-or,-fully, re-+-in, -arian and –ese. The –ly changes adjective into adverb, -ion changes verb into noun,-ment changes verb into noun, -al changes noun into adjective,-ical changes noun into adjective, -ive changes verb into adjective, im- changes adjective into adjective,-ity changes adjective into noun, -able changes noun into adverb,ism changes adjective into noun, -ator changes verb into noun, -f ully changes verb into adverb, re +-in changes noun into verb, -arian changes noun into adjective and –ese changes noun into adjective.
