Abstract

This research paper entitled Ideational Meaning Created in Kartini’s Biography in http://www.wikipedia.free.encyclopedia.comhas two objectives. The first is to find out the system of transitivity recognized on the text. The second is to construe how the field of the discourse is built. The data of this research were taken from Kartini’s Biography which is published in Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (May, 05, 2013). They were then segmented into clauses, and they were classified and identified in the transitivity system of functional grammar. The field of the discourse in the Kartini’s biography was interpreted using David Butt’s theory. There are 34 clause complexes which consist of 78 clauses, one of which is left unanalyzed because it is a minor clause. The other 77 clauses are major clause. The most dominate processes are verbal process (25 %). Thus, sayers as agentive participants dominate over the other agentive participants. The field of the discourse is described in (a) experiential domain about one woman, she is Kartini’s biography who raised the degree of emancipation of women Indonesia alone but is a national figure means that, with the ideas of reform that she had fought for the interests of her people. (b) Short term goal is to tell the struggle of women in Indonesia. She is doing make women not only the kitchen but also must have knowledge. (c) Long term goal is Kartini made emancipation of women Indonesia and especially to women in Indonesia can get appreciated to Kartini’s struggle.
