Abstract

Violita, Liem Voni. 2015. The Codes Switched in Rising Star Indonesia Live Audition 2. A Thesis, English Department, Undergraduate Program of Stikubank University Semarang. Supervisor: Endang Yuliani Rahayu, S.S, M.Pd. This research examines the codes selected in Rising Star Indonesia Live Audition 2. The data of the study were taken by recording the Rising Star Indonesia, which were then analyzed on the based of code switching theory. The result shows that there are two hundred and thirty one (231) code being switched by the host and judge of the Rising Star Indonesia. Intersentential code switching (8.65%), intrasentential code switching (55.41%), tag switching (19.92%), internal code switching (4.76%), situational code switching (11.26%). There are one hundred and thirty (130) code switching of Indonesian to English and twenty nine (29) code switching of Indonesian to Javanese. The code switching is the highest frequency that occurs as the host Boy William frequent code switching in a single sentence because Boy William is capable to speak in different languages. The most frequently found categories related to function of code switching are communication more effectively (43.53%), emphasize a point (8.80%), ease communication (26.94%), capture attention (12.43%), convey precious meaning
