Abstract
The writer chose the title since there are lot of code switching in the speech text of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in “ Pidato akademik usai menerima gelar Doktor Honoris Causa dari Universitas Tsinghua “ formal text which was used as the data. Those were analyzed on the bases of code switching theory, the result shows that there are fifty four (54)of code switching, consist of sixteen(16)external code switching, six(6) internal code switching, fifteen (15)intra-sentential code switching, ten (10)inter-sentential code switching, three (3) situational code switching and four (4)tag code switching, There are twenty one (21)code switching of Indonesian to English and two (2)code switching Indonesian to Javanese. The most frequently found categories related to function of code switching are to create for more effective communication (45,94%), for ease of communication (10,8% ), to emphasizing a point(18,9% ) and conveying precious meaning (24,32% )
