Abstract
This research paper presents William Sommerset Maugham’s The Treasure. The story tells about Richard Harenger. Richard as the main character is described as an adult, rich, extrovert, perfectionist, and happy man. The analysis began by describing the main character anxiety, Richard possession, and effect of anxiety experienced by the main character. The researcher is interested to analyze them because there are socio-psychological aspects present in the presentation of the main character and influence his life. The library research method is applied to make scientific discussion. The structural approach is used to describe and learn the sructural elements, such as character and conflict. Meanwhile, the socio-psychological approach is used to get better understanding in the characters’ thought, personality and behavior that will be influenced by the society. After analyzing the short story, the result indicates that Richard is described as a dynamic character. In the beginning, he is described as an adult, rich, extrovert, perfectionist, and happy man. Then, he goes out his maid. This event makes him anxious because he is afraid if there are people know about it and they start to talk about it.
