Abstract
This thesis presents “The Unique Spirit of Aya Ikeuchi Found In Michiru Egashira’s 1 Litre Of Tears:As a Reader-Response Study”. 1 Litre of Tears tells about a unique spirit of a Japanese young girl, named Aya Ikeuchi who is suffering from incurable Spinocerebellar Degeneration. The aim of this thesis is to find out of Aya Ikeuchi’s unique spirit in challenging her life, and to explain the unique spirit from the reader’s point of view. This study applies reader-response theory and needs interpretation of the text which also applies hermeneutics theory. The writer analyzes unique spirit of the main character from the dialog of the movie.
