A research paper, English Department, Undergraduate Program of Stikubank University Semarang. Supervisor: Drs. Liliek Soepriatmadji, M.Pd This research paper is entitled Aspectual Verbs Displayed in the Headlines of the Main News Items of the Jakarta Globe. This study is aimed to find the taxonomies of aspectual verbs and the functions of the aspectual verbs displayed in the headlines of the main news items in the Jakarta Globe published in May 2015. The study is designed in qualitative research. The procedure of analysing the utterances is based on the criteria proposed by Creswell (2003). The aspectual verb most frequently used in the main news items of the headlines of the Jakarta Globe is prospective aspect. In addition, criticize expression is the most frequently used in the unit of analysis as the function of the aspectual verbs. Criticize expression is verdictive verb. Verdictive verb is speech act in which the speaker makes an assessment or judgment about the acts of another, usually the addressee.
