Abstract

Rachmadany, Sheila Riana. 2015. The African-American Slangs Uttered by The Characters in John Singleton‘s movie ―2Fast 2Furious‖. A research paper, English Department, Undergraduated Program of Stikubank University Semarang. Supervisor: Endang Yuliani Rahayu, S.S, M.Pd. This study is entitled The African-American Slangs Uttered by the Characters in John Singleton‘s movie ―2 Fast 2 Furious‖. This study attempts to analyze the slangs used in ―2Fast 2Furious‖ movie. This study proposed to find out the type of word formation, the context, and the meaning of the slangs found in the script. This study used qualitative research, it means that the writer only explains the slangs phenomenon found in the script. From the data that had been analyzed, the writer found there were 70 utterances containing slangs and there were 9 types of word formation used in those utterances, namely; (1) Clipping with the total utterance of 10 (14.3%), (2) Compounding with the total utterance of 20 (29%), (3) Blending with the total utterance 1 (1.4%), (4) Abbreviation with the total utterance of 3 (4.3%), (5) Borrowing with the total utterance of 10 (14.3%), (6) Back formation with the total utterance 3 (4.3%), (7) Coinage with the total utterance of 2 (2.9%), (8) Inflection with the total utterance of 4 (5.7%), and (9) Offensive word with the total utterance of 17 (24%). The writer concluded that the compounding is the type of word formation that mostly used in the script. It means that the slangs term found in the script is a new form of word. There were also 2 contexts of slangs that found in the script, namely; (1) Positive with the total utterance of 38 (54.3%), and (2) Negative with the total utterance of 32 (45.7%). The writer concluded that the positive context is the context of slangs mostly found in the script. It means slangs that mostly found in the script are the combination of word, word contraction, and term with positive meaning.
