Abstract

Talk show is a program that displays one or several people to discuss the specific topic that is guided by a host, that is original and trustworthy. In this case the speaker must understand the problems. It can also build good relationship whenever we communicate with other, to organize turn at speaking. Turn taking is a means of social interaction involving two or more participants who talk about certain topic. There are several steps that to analyze the data based on turn taking mechanism, such as: identifying the segmented units of analysis on the bases of turn taking mechanism, labeling the identified units of analysis, retyping the categorized units of analysis so that the writer can easily tabulate the findings into tables, tabulating the findings into the table of turn taking mechanism, explaining the overall results of the analyzed data. This research paper is aimed at analyzing turn construction unit, turn allocation unit, and dominant speaker in ―The Late Late Show‖ Talkshow Broadcast on CBS TV in February 6, 2016. The results of the study indicate that turn construction unit that consist of a single lexical item is as many as 34 units, a phrase as many as 10 units, a clause as many as 16 units, and a sentence as many as 84 units. Secondly, turn allocation units consist of current speaker select next speaker: 1. Select a different speaker as many as 27 units, 1. Select self as many as 45 units and next speaker self select as many as 12 units.
