Abstract

We can find the using of slang everywhere. It can be found in magazine, novel, comic, social network, and movie.The used of slangs is dominated by young people in the world especially in movie. Talking about movie, it is the source of entertainment which is popular for people. Movie also includes factors spreading of slangism. The thesis is entitled “The Slangs Used in Whiplash Movie found in Damien Chazelle. It has two objectives. That is to find slang languages in Whiplash movie script, the second is to find the meanings of slangs found in the movie. Slang language had been used by the characters in movie in Whiplash movie. To get the data, the writer searched the movie in the internet, and then he searched the movie script in the internet and read all dialogues in the internet and then analyzed the dialogue from this movie to find out the slang words. In analyzing the data, the writer applied four stages: (1) Identifying the utterances containing slangs. (2) Finding the meaning of the slangs, by looking for the meaning of the slang words from a slang word dictionary. (3) Determining the function of theslangs based on the speech function. (4) Interpreting the meaning of the slangs, by looking for the meaning of the slang words from a slang word dictionary and from internet. For the findings were (1) The slangs used found in Whiplash movie are fucking, wanna, and gonna. (2) Whiplash movie was dominated by slangs of fucking. The frequency of fucking is 43 words. However all of the characters in the movie were also used slang words every time.
