Abstract

This research paper is entitled Figurative Expression found in Resolution and independence by William Wordsworth. The objectives of the study are to find the type of the figurative expression and to find out the contextual meaning of the poem. The writer discussed the data using descriptive explanation that means the data explained by using the poem as description of the result of the study. The writer has several steps to analyze the data, there are: identification, classification, and interpretation. In this research, there are 7types of figurative expression. The first domination is Personification 51.85%, second domination is Simile 11.11% and the third domination is Hyperbole 7.40 %. Moreover, the writer not only found any type of the figurative expression but also the contextual meaning on the poem. It is concluded that the figurative languages in this poem not only function as a transformation to make a certain linguistics point n communicating the deal, but also give more artistic value to the poem, rather than the ordinary language. Therefore the poem that containing figurative language can create a concrete illustration in the readers mind in more beautiful way.
