Abstract
This research paper deals with the analysis of politeness strategies used by the main characters in Brick Mansions movie. The objectives of study are to find out types of politeness strategies used by the main character in Brick Mansions movie and to describe the way politeness strategies are employed by the main characters in Brick Mansions movie. The study applies qualitative research. The data were taken from the transcript of Brick Mansions movie. They were analyzed using the theory of politeness strategies as proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987). The results show that there are four types of politeness strategies used by the main characters in Brick Mansions movie. They are bald on record (40), positive politeness (128), negative politeness (22) and bald off record (9). In employing those politeness strategies, the main characters use various sub-strategies, positive politeness (3 sub-strategies), negative politeness (3 sub-strategies) and bald off record (2 sub-strategies).
