Abstract
This study focuses on linguistic politeness based on Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness that is positive and negative politeness used by main characters on In Her Shoes movie. The objectives of study are to find out strategies of positive and negative politeness used by the main characters and to describe the way politeness strategies are employed by the main characters. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The data were in the form of utterances which contain positive and negative politeness strategies with various sub-strategies. The data source was In Her Shoes movie script. The data were collected by watching and transcribing then they were classified and analyzed. The results of the research show two important points. There are nineteen sub-strategies of positive politeness and five sub-strategies of negative politeness who employed by the main characters on those movie. Positive politeness has the largest frequency.
