Abstract

Beautiful Boxer is a film adapted from the life story of Nong Toom, a man who decided to transgender, which was then directed by a Thai singapore director. The study aims to analyze the performance of the main character by using qualitative methods. This study also applied theory of performativity by Judith Butler in Gender Trouble (1990) to analyze the perform of the main character. This film tells the two sides of Noong Toom, is gender which he applies in his daily life. In a boxing ring he acts as a masculine man who is identical with a strong character, while after the ring he returns to show his feminine attitude that is identical with a gracious woman. There are two sides from the Thai people toward Toom’s gender. Some of them respond in positive way, an in the other hand respond negatively. The result of the study prove that gender is fluid and uncertain towards Judith Butler theory.
