Abstract

This study is a descriptive qualitative study, focused in discussing the oppression that is portrayed in Sarah Gavron’s movie “Suffragette” in 2015. This movie presents difficult struggle of a women’s fight, rebellion and civil disobdience, the characters consist of 7 women. They are fighting together to obtain right to vote. Many things that they have to sacrifice to change the situation does not take side of them especially women. As a part of feminism study, the researcher uses feminism approach. It focuses on the explanation on how the characters get the oppression using Virgiana Woolf theory “A Room of One's Own” (1929) is applied to analyze this research paper. The aim this research is to analyze the problem of women oppression which appears in the early of 20th century. The reasearcher shows the oppression happened to women in that era, and conveys the women to overcome many kinds of obstacles until they reach the fair result to get the right to vote. Women oppression in the early 20th century can truly be seen in Sarah Gavron movie.
