Abstract

The research paper is entitled The Codes Switched by the Host and the Guests in “Ada AdaAja” talk show broadcast on Global TV in August 25th 2014. The writer chose the title because code switching an interesting topic to be discussed. Besides there are a lot of code switching found in “Ada AdaAja” talk show such as inter sentential and intra sentential. This research paper has two objectives. First it is aimed at explaining the types of code switching. Second, it is aimed at explaining the reasons of code. Documentation method was used to collect the data. All of code switching found in “Ada AdaAja” talk show was taken to be the data. In finding out the realization of code switching and its use, the writer watching and recordingthe conversation of “Ada AdaAja” talk show broadcast on Global TV. In analyzing the data , the writer applied qualitative technique. Two hundred and two code switching were found in selected data. The types of code switching mostly found is intra- sentential code switching (48.3%) and Inter- sentential code switching (3.3%) . Frequently, code switching is used to communicate more effectively (45.6%), to ease communication (34.1%), to capture attention (14.3%), and to emphasize a point (6.0%).
