Abstract

This study focuses on turns taken by the participants in Q & A program which was broadcast on ABC Channel in August 6 th 2018. The objectives of the study are to elaborate how participants in Q & A Program broadcast on ABC Channel take their turns and to explain how their turns are realized. This research used descriptive qualitative research. The unit analysis of this study is turn. The data source was a talk show named Q & A. The data were collected by downloading from ABC YouTube Channel then retyping the data, segmenting the data into unit of analysis after that identifying and analyzing the segmented turn. The results of the research are two points. The participants took their turns by applying turn allocation units and turn taking strategies in different constructional units. The dominant turn allocation units are current speaker select next speaker as many as 72 units and next speaker self select turn as many as 89 units. The uses of taking over, prompting and lexical repetition are the dominant turn taking strategies. Sentences are the dominant turn constructional units for the purpose of providing information in the talk show.
