Abstract
The research analyzes the binary oppositions and deconstruction of aesthetics and morality concept in Oscar Wilde‘s The Picture of Dorian Gray. There are two kinds of purposes of the research. The first is to find out the binary oppositions of beauty/ugliness in aesthetics concept and good/evil in morality. The second is to deconstruct both aesthetics and morality concepts. The researcher uses the theory of deconstruction by Jacques Derrida as the foundation of the research and a descriptive qualitative study in order to answer the research problems. The theory of deconstruction focuses on the interpretation of meaning, binary oppositions, and subject. The writer found that the data in the novel based on the major characters‘ views of aestheticism and morality beliefs can affect or legitimate to other character. It is called the binary opposition in which there are two different ideas, one of the ideas more benefitted in a system.
