Abstract

This study aims to find out the oppression manifested in the Bug’s Life movie, the effect of the oppressions and how the characters fight against the oppressors. This study used Marxist theory which was elaborated by Young (1990) to analyze the data. The data were collected by watching the movie and reading the movie script. After that, the researcher made list of expressions that shows oppressive activities in the movie. The was reflected in utterances and actions of the character in the movie. The study found five types of oppression namely, exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, violence. The oppression affected the sub-ordinate characters, and the oppressed fought against the dominant character.
