Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze and empirically prove the influence of competency and job characteristic toward organizational commitment in Trade Department of Semarang City municipality government. Far more, it is also an instrument to analyze and empirically prove the influence of competency, work characteristic and organizational commitment toward the employees’ performance of the department. Population of this research is the 275 employees of Trade department of Semarang city. Using purposive sampling, which uses the employee whose educational background are diploma to post graduate, the sample obtained is 105 respondents Type of analyze used is double linier regression. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that: competency has positive and significant influence toward organizational commitment, job characteristic has positive and significant influence toward organizational commitment, competency has positive and significant influence toward employees’ performance, job characteristic has positive and significant influence toward employees’ performance, and organizational commitment has positive and significant influence toward employees’ performance. Organizational commitment mediate the influence of competency and job characteristic toward employees’ performance. This research is using determination significance of 0.10. Keywords: competency, job characteristic, organizational commitment, and employee performance.
