Abstract
This thesis is about a figurative language study of the Katy Perry’s album untitled “Teenage Dream”. The aim of this thesis is to find out the figure of speech used in Katy Perry’s album entitled “Teenage Dream”. The data of this thesis are taken from the Katy Perry’s album entitled “Teenage Dream”. This study focuses on the figures of speech used in album “Teenage Dream”. In this album, the writer collects the data by using library research, internet research and documentary research. After the data are collected, then they are analyzed using the following steps: reading the song lyric, doing identification, classification, and interpretation. In the song lyric of Katy Perry in album “Teenage Dream”, the writer founds simile and seven types of metaphor; they are personification, hyperbole, metonymy, epithet, oxymoron, pun or paronomasia, and eponym. The percentage of these figurative languages are Simile (19%), Personification (29%), Hyperbole (26%), Pun or paronomasia (11%), Epithet (11%), Metonymy (10%), Oxymoron (8%), Eponym (2%). From the analysis it can be shown that commonly Katy Perry use personification and hyperbole in her song lyrics.
