Abstract
This thesis entitled “A Syntactic Analysis on the Slogans of Selected Products on Television”. This study has three objectives; first it is used to describe the kinds of phrases found in the slogans of selected product advertised on television. Second, to describe the kinds of clauses found in the slogans of selected product advertised on television. Third, to reveal the phrase structures rule that mostly occur in the slogans of selected product on television. To analyze the data, the writer used the descriptive qualitative. The writer identified the data, analyzed the phrase structure r ule, and interpreted the finding into the dominance of the occurrence. The writer found 20 slogans, 16 slogans (80%) uses phrase constructions and 4 (20%) uses simple sentence constructions. The phrases construction slogans divided into 12 slogans of noun phrase and 4 slogans of verb phrase. The writer did not find dependent clause. The slogans that have simple sentence constructions can be categorized based on their functions are 4 slogans of declarative sentences. The phrase structure (PS) rules that applied in the slogans are: S NP + VP, NP NP + PP, VP V + NP.
