Abstract
The study entitled A Sociolinguistics Analysis on Code Switching Found in a Comparative Study on Facebook Statuses between an Unisbank English Department Student and an Indonesian Worker in Japan: Case Study. The thesis has two objectives. First, it is aimed at finding out the realization of code-switching in facebook statuses. Second, it is aimed at establishing the types and the reasons of code-switching that exist in facebook statuses. The writer limits the problem of the study about code-switching in facebook statuses used by an Indonesian worker in Japan and an Unisbank English Department Student. This study described the types of code-switching. Types of code-switching found namely: inter-sentential switching (50%), intra-sentential switching (40%) and emblematic switching (10%) for an Indonesian worker in Japan facebook statuses and inter-sentential switching (70%), intra-sentential switching (20%) and emblematic switching (10%) for an Unisbank English Department Student facebook statuses. This study examined the reasons of switching, there were 5 reasons that were found in an Indonesian worker in Japan facebook statuses, being emphatic about something that was found on nine statuses (45%), intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor that was found on two statuses (10%), interjection that was found on three statuses (15%), talking about particular topic that was found on five statuses (25%), quoting somebody else that was found on one statuses (5%). Those there were 4 reasons that were found in Unisbank English Department Student, being emphatic about something that was found on seven statuses (35%), interjection that was found on eight statuses (40%), talking about particular topic that was found on three statuses (15%), quoting somebody else that was found on two statuses (10%).
