Abstract

This thesis gives some information about the analyses of connotative meaning in Josh Groban’s Closer. The lyrics of Josh Groban’s usually takes social, religious and love issue around him. Herein these lyrics are the ones which are selected based on the best diction in English in that the most refer to the connotative meaning. To analyze the subject matter, the writer firstly gathers the information from the relevant books related to the subject matter and also collecting the data taken from the Josh Groban’s Closer. For further, the compiled data are going to be identified which ones that include in connotative meaning. To make an easy analysis they will be presented in a table form. At last, the connotative words or phrases in Josh Groban’s Closer will be interpreted by the writer with relying on chapter II as guidance. Based on the description of the steps analysis above, the results of the research hopefully close to what the writer and the readers want. All the interpretation of the connotative meaning found in Josh Groban’s Closer will still rely on chapter II and the writer’s perspective as the reader. In conclusion, the connotative words or phrases that have been analyzed on its connotative meaning is 29 words. Moreover, the interpretation of connotative meaning of each word or phrase taken from Josh Groban’s Closer had been always interrelated to the context situation of the selected lyrics.
