Abstract
This study aims to determine the gender roles depicted through Kia's character and the challenges faced in her married life, by using Kate Millet's feminism theory , Sexual Politics 1970. A patriarchal society gives full priority to men, and to some extent also limits women's human rights. Men are superiors while women are subordinates. The ideal family thought by the community is a husband (men) who works to earn money and a wife (women) always depicted as housekeepers. Gender can be defined as cultural expectations of men and women. The unit of analysis is the film script and visual scenes. This study used qualitative method to collect the data. This research is important because it is to broaden knowledge and understanding of gender roles and to fulfill curiosity needs. Ki and Ka movie shows the identities of women and men by showing the exchange of gender roles of a wife and a husband. This movie shows the character of the wife (Kia) as breadwinner and the husband (Kabir) as homemaker. The results of the study will show that gender roles can be exchanged, both in the public and domestic spheres as well as the challenges that arise as a result of the exchange of roles. Women can be successful in their careers and be an inspiration, while men can also be good homemakers.
