Abstract

In the Mulan movie 2020, the problem of women’s freedom to act following their conscience, despite being in a conflict, was underlined. Consequently, this study aims to identify the causes of Mulan’s assumption, the discriminatory behaviors that occurred, and the consequences of Mulan’s discrimination. This study employs a descriptive analysis based on the theoretical framework of Naomi Wolf. The findings of this study reveal that assumption is a manifestation of the traditional Chinese culture society, which influence by the submissive teachings of Confucius. In the meantime, Mulan’s brief persecution served as a type of expulsion after she uncovered her male disguise. Mulan’s response to this injustice is to disprove the notion that women cannot save the emperor. As a result, she rewards with a position on the emperor’s guard. Rubiah, Laras Wati Nur. 2022. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penyebab munculnya asumsi Mulan, perilaku diskriminatif yang terjadi, dan akibat diskriminasi Mulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif berdasarkan kerangka teori Naomi Wolf. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa anggapan tersebut merupakan manifestasi dari masyarakat budaya tradisional Tionghoa, yang dipengaruhi oleh ajaran Khonghucu yang patuh. Sementara itu, penganiayaan singkat Mulan menjadi semacam pengusiran setelah dia membuka penyamaran prianya. Tanggapan Mulan terhadap ketidakadilan ini adalah untuk menyangkal anggapan bahwa wanita tidak dapat menyelamatkan kaisar. Akibatnya, dia memberi penghargaan dengan posisi sebagai penjaga kaisar
