Abstract

Pendekatan feminis dalam kajian sastra sering dikenal dengan istilah kritik sastra feminis. Dalam sebuah karya sastra, feminisme berfokus pada perempuan sebagai subjek kajian. Beberapa novel sering bercerita tentang ketidakadilan terhadap perempuan yang seringkali ditandai dengan stereotip terhadap perempuan. Salah satu novel yang akan diangkat dalam penelitian ini adalah novel “The Best of Me” karya Nicholas Sparks. Novel berjudul “The Best of Me” karya Nicholas Sparks menjadi objek penelitian ini karena novel tersebut bercerita tentang tokoh Amanda yang berjuang untuk bertahan hidup dengan kekuatan perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan kualitatif. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan metode sastra untuk memperoleh informasi dan gambaran tokoh utama Amanda sebagai perempuan dalam novel “The Best of Me” yang mengkaji tentang feminisme sosialis. Berdasarkan hasil pembahasan pada bab-bab sebelumnya, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa feminisme sosial dapat dilihat dari tokoh Amanda Collier yang merupakan tokoh utama dalam novel The Best of Me. Amanda mampu berjuang di tengah kesedihan yang mendalam, rasa kehilangan sebagai seorang ibu, bahkan ia harus menghibur Frank, suaminya yang berubah menjadi pecandu alkohol yang selalu menyakiti hati Amanda. Hal ini menggambarkan bagaimana kondisi kapitalis dan patriarki memojokkan Amanda sebagai perempuan tertindas yang tidak bisa merasakan nikmatnya hidup. The feminist approach in literary studies is often known as feminist literary criticism. In a literary work, feminism focuses on women as a subject of study. Several novels often tell stories about injustice against women which are often characterized by stereotypes against women. One of the novels that will be raised in this study is the novel “The Best of Me” by Nicholas Sparks. The novel entitled “The Best of Me” by Nicholas Sparks is the object of this research because the novel told us about the character Amanda who struggles to survive with the power of women. This study uses a qualitative approach method. This type of research uses literary methods to obtain information and descriptions of the main character Amanda as a woman in the novel “The Best of Me” which examines socialist feminism. Based on the results of the discussion in the previous chapters, the writer concludes that social feminism can be seen from the character Amanda Collier who is the main player in the novel The Best of Me. Amanda is able to struggle amidst deep sadness, a sense of loss as a mother, she even has to cheer up Frank, her husband, who turns into an alcoholic who always hurts Amanda. This illustrates how capitalist and patriarchal conditions corner Amanda as an oppressed woman who cannot feel the joy of life.
