Abstract

This study analyzes nationalism which is reflected in the students in postcolonial era based on Fanon post-colonialism theory. This thesis entitle : Nationalism Reflected Richard LaGravenese‟s Movie “Freedom Writers” As a Study of Fanon„s Post-colonialism . It has five research questions, they are: (1) How is Erin Gruwell characterized as a teacher? (2) How are Eva, Sindy Ngor, Jamal Hill, and Marcus characterized as Erin’s students? (3) What is the setting in Freedom Writers movie? (4) What is the background to discrimination in Freedom Writers? (5) How does the nationalism overcome the discrimination problem?. The writer wants to explore what will happen after colonialism in United States of America. The study uses post-colonialism approach, especially Fanon’s theory to analyze this thesis. The primary data of the research is Richard LaGravenese’s Freedom Writers Movie. Techniques of data collection is done by watching carefully, reading subtitle and synopsis to explore the language and classified into postcolonial analysis aspects. The data analysis is done by classifying data, describing the results of classification and interpreting it. Then, to analysis postcolonial analysis, the writer begins to analyze character from various races in America, especially the students in Freedom Writer‟s movie.
