Abstract
Patriarchy brings an understanding of restriction on women and the negative stigma about women's power. But the reality, women have the same power and opportunities as men and empowering women increases well-being. This research aims to reveal how Unbelievable portrays the differences between male and female detectives in handling rape cases, to find out Duvall's, the female detective, factors, and motivation in helping rape victims, and to find out women empowerment in Unbelievable. The researcher uses qualitative methodology to analyze the film. Subjective criticism and women empowerment are the theories used in the research. The data are utterances that show differences in treatment, mindset, factors and motivation, and the empowerment of Detective Duvall as the female main character. There are three results of this study; (1) Three differences covering the victim treatment, investigation model, and the mindset between male and female detectives in handling rape cases that show the female detective's capability. (2) Duvall's factors and motivation include self-confidence, empathy, Protestant work ethic, and Christian faith, show self-strength and women power. (3) Duvall's success in bringing justice has given strength to victims, and values such as economic independence, freedom to get an education and career paths, balance roles at home and profession, are a reflection of women empowerment. Duvall's character can inspire many women who see this film to become strong and independent women.
