Abstract
Nowadays, one of the important issues is global warming and climate change. These two
things are phenomenon of the increase of concentration of green house on the atmosphere as
the effect of various human activities as a result of economic development. The success of
that economic developmental activities can be seen from the increase of national output
value in the form of gross national product. In this analysis the writer wants to know if
Environmental Kurzet Curve (EKC) about the relation between economic growth and
environmental degradation in Indonesia is proved. To test this hypothesis, the writer uses the
secondary data PDRB per capita and Environmental Quality Index known as IKLH. The
data of PDRB per capita is used to measure the economic growth and IKLH is used to
measure the degradation of the environment. Since the data used is taken from IKLH, not the

data of the environmental degradation so that the thing that will be proved by EKC
hypothesis is it looks like the letter of U not the inverted U. After analyzing the data, it is
found that EKC in Indonesia is like the letter of U at α 0,115. It means that the increase of
national income is followed by the decrease of IKLH until the certain limit. When the certain
limit is achieved the increase of income is followed by the increase of IKLH. In this case it is
suggested to the government to formulate the policy which is able to increase the society
income, and it is hoped that the ability of the society to protect the environment is also
increased and the willingness of the society to sacrifice other goods in order to protect the
environment is increased as well.
