Abstract
ABSTRACT Yulissar, Karina Putri FIGURATIVE EXPRESSIONS FOUND IN ONE DIRECTION ALBUM‘S MIDNIGHT MEMORIES, Faculty of Language and Cultural Studies, Graduate Program of the University of Stikubank Semarang. Supervisor: Dr. Sugeng Purwanto, MA. This research paper is entitled Figurative Expressions Found in One Direction Album‘s Midnight Memories. The objectives of the study are to found the type of the figurative expression and to construe the meaning of the song lyric. The writer discussed the data using descriptive explanation that means the data explained by using song lyrics as description of the result of the study. The writer has several steps to analyze the data, there are: reading, identification, classification, and interpretation. In this research, there are 9 types of figurative expression. The first domination is Hyperbole 40.81%. The second domination is Simile 18.36%. The third domination is personification 14.28%. Moreover, the writer not only found any type of the figurative expression but also the construe meaning on the song lyric. It is concluded that The figurative languages in this song lyric not only function as a transformation to make certain linguistics point the song in communicating the idea, but also give more artistic value to the song lyric rather than the ordinary language. Therefore, the lyric that contains figurative languages can create a concrete illustration in the listener‘s or reader‘s mind in more beautiful way.
