Abstract

Anxiety is the inconvenience feeling and everyone’s problem. This is not serious problem but should be decrease to avoid the worst thing. So, people needs ego defence mechanism to decrease anxiety. This study is a descriptive qualitative study, focused on discussing the ego defence mechanism of the main character of Orphan movie. This movie presents about an old lady who has child’s psyche and wants to steal a husband of family. Her actions are caused by some anxieties, because of that she has to decrease it. It is called ego defence mechanism. As a part of psychoanalysis study, the researcher uses psychoanalysis approach. This study applied Sigmund Freud’s theory ego defence mechanism. The aim of this research is to analyse the cause of ego defence mechanism, the kind of ego defence mechanism which appears in the character, and the effect of ego defence mechanism to other characters. The findings of this research are projection as the main character’s ego defence mechanism, anxiety as the cause, and some effect happens to other characters.
