Abstract

This final project entitled Prestige of A Female Character in The Necklace by Guy De Maupassant is aimed to the world we live in is an illusion. This research aims to find out the characteristic that Madam Loisel’s does, as the main character, her efforts to achieve her prestige and the effect of prestige. David Bleich approach is considered as the appreciate theory for the analysis. In subjective Critics, David Bleich suggest using response statements as a way of discovering and analyzing the subjective factors perceptions, affects and associations that influence readers reaction to texts. According to Bleich once readers adjust to writing about their perception of texts, they will seek within themselves the causes of these perceptions: “ The act of articulating a perception creates a motive to articulate the motivating feeling “ (148). The result of study is that Madame Loisel should not show excessive appearance and not in accordance with its capacity. But she was born into a clerk's family and ends up marrying another clerk, so she can't afford the stuffs that she wants, which makes her unhappy. All the characters of this story acted like ordinary persons and foolishly represented themselves, gain nothing. This is how the world is as Maupassant represents.
