Abstract
This thesis entitled Indonesian Gambits used by Sales Promotion Girl (SPG) Mensana to promote the product, isintended to answer the problem, (1) what kinds of Indonesian gambits are used by the SPG, and (2) What are the function of the Indonesian used by SPG. The data analyzed in the study are taken from conversation used by SPG to promote the product, so it will reveal the function of Indonesian gambits applied in the conversation. This study uses qualitative study to analyze the data. To facilitate the process of analysis, the methods in this study are divided into two parts for supporting data related with the subject of the thesis, they are method of data collection namely library study and data recording, and method of data analysis. The data are analyzed using the following steps, namely transcribing, identifiying, classification and iterpretation. The writer concludeds that are based on the analysis the Indonesian gambits used by SPG are opening gambits, linking gambit, and responding gambits, and kinds of gambits that are mostly used in the conversation are breaking in the communication, ask information, state in the main thing, interrupting something, show something affects you, listing excuses, giving reason, showing interest, guessing, accepting compliment, telling a story, the main problem, a conviction, an unpleasant thought, change the subject, surprising news,and show interest.
