Abstract
Opression is an act or unfair treatment experienced by someone because of a different background. Opression mostly occurs to women. Women are not allowed to voice their opinions, work, study, politics and so on. Oppression is an act or unfair treatment, usually this happens because of a difference. Related to this research, it discusses the depiction of oppression in America which is told in the short story The Yellow Walpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. This study aims to find out what oppression are doing, their descriptions, and methods.The main character takes action to overcome the oppression according to the short story. This journal is categorized as a qualitative-based research that uses feminism approach as an applied theory. The research was conducted by analyzing the conversation in story and apply feminism theory by Louis Tyson. Research finds that bullying in the short story the Yellow Wallpaper occurs in the field of health, living environment, work environment, and public places that are passed down of patriarchal culture in America.This research aims to show the forms of oppression that occur against female characters in The Yellow Wallpaper and analyzes how female characters experience oppression This theory discusses the common forms of oppression in society. This form of oppression is somehow called an act of injustice that befalls a person or group of people because of some reasons, such as class, race and gender.
