Abstract
The problem in this research is how character of Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinder series, which is related with problem of the character with surrounding environment and social life of the author in Peaky Blinder series. This research aims to describe the character of Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinder series, especially social condition relate with character of Thomas Shelby. And social situation of Birmingham Society that the reason why Peaky Blinder series was created. The data source for this research is the series Peaky Blinder by Steven Knight which was released on Netflix. The research did based on genetic structuralism includes world view of the author, collective subject and human fact surrounding environment to build character of Thomas Shelby. With using qualitative descriptive. The source of the data showing : (1) the character of Thomas Shelby be influenced by his living environment. (2) in 3 concepts genetic structuralism represented : Human Fact represented by Peaky Blinder activities, collective subject in this series represented with lumpen proletariat class by Peaky Blinder gang. Worldview of the author related with existence of Peaky Blinder in Birmingham. Which is environment and condition in Birmingham in the 20th century, it is background for Peaky Blinder and Thomas Shelby character was created. Masalah dalam penelitian ini yaitu bagaimana karakterisasi tokoh utama Thomas Shelby dalam Series Peaky Blinder yang berkaitan dengan problematika tokoh dengan lingkunganya dan kehidupan sosial pengarang dalam series Peaky Blinder. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan karakter Thomas Shelby di series Peaky Blinder khususnya yang keadaan sosial yang berhubungan berkaitan dengan pengkarakteran Thomas Shelby. Serta situasi sosial masyarakat Birmingham yang mengkondisikan series Peaky Blinder di ciptakan. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah series Peaky Blinder karya Steven Knight yang dirilis di Netflix. Penelitian dilakukan berdasarkan strukturalisme genetik yang meliputi pandangan dunia pengarang, subjek kolektif dan lingkungan sekitar untuk membangun karakter Thomas Shelby. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data ini menunjukkan:(1) tokoh utama Thomas Shelby memiliki karakter yang dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan hidupnya. (2) Dalam 3 konsep genetic structuralis yang digunakan menghasilkan: fakta kemanusiaan di representasikan dengan aktifitas dari Peaky Blinder. Subjek koletif dalam series ini direpresentasikan dengan kelas sosilal lumpen proletariat yang di wakili dengan geng Peaky Blinder. Pandangan dunia pengarang berkaitan dengan keberadaan Peaky Blinder di Birmingham. Dan lingkungan dan peristiwa di Birmingham pada abad 20 yang melatar belakangi Peaky Blinder dan karkater Thomas Shelby dibuat.
