Abstract

This research paper entitled Figurative Language in William Butler Yeats’s Poems aimed to find out of kind of figurative language and to reveal the meaning of figurative language. The research used text oriented approach because the materiality of this research focused on poem’s text and was designed in descriptive qualitative method. The analysis was based on the theory of Figurative Language proposed by Perrine (1977). The result of this study found seven types of figurative language which are used in the poems of William Butler Yeats’s Poems. The kind of figurative language used in four William Butler Yeats’s poems are metaphor, personification, hyperbole, apostrophe, paradox, simile, and symbol. The most of figurative language used in four William Butler Yeats’s poems is Metaphor. There are many different theme that can be taken from those poems. They are about love, sadness, and happiness. Skripsi berjudul Figurative Language in William Butler Yeats’s Poems ini bertujuan untuk menemukan jenis bahasa kiasan dan mengungkap makna bahasa kiasan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan berbasis teks karena materialitas penelitian ini terfokus pada teks puisi dan dirancang dengan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Analisis ini didasarkan pada teori Figurative Language yang dikemukakan oleh Perrine (1977). Hasil dari penelitian ini menemukan tujuh jenis bahasa kiasan yang digunakan dalam Puisi William Butler Yeats. Jenis bahasa kiasan yang digunakan dalam empat puisi William Butler Yeats adalah metafora, personifikasi, hiperbola, apostrof, paradoks, simile, dan simbol. Bahasa kiasan yang paling banyak digunakan dalam empat puisi William Butler Yeats adalah Metafora. Terdapat beberapa tema berbeda yang ditemukan dari puisi-puisi tersebut. Tema tersebut adalah tentang cinta, kesedihan, dan kebahagiaan.
