Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan jenis figurative language dan makna yang terdapat dalam puisi Edgar Albert Guest. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dan menggunakan teori Perrine dalam menganalisis figurative language yang ada di dalam tiga puisi Edgar Albert Guest ‗Be a Friend‘, ‗A Friends Greeting‘, dan ‗A Friend‘. Temuan dalam penelitian ini menunjukan jenis figurative metafora dan hyperbole yang mendominasi dalam tiga puisi Edgar Albert Guest, dan terdapat satu imagery, dua anaphora, dua symbolism dan satu synecdoche. Dalam penelitian ini juga menyimpulkan bahwa persahabatan adalah hal yang berarti bagi setiap orang khusus nya yang memiliki sahabat. The purpose of this study is to find out type of figurative language and meaning contained in Edgar Albert Guest‘s poem. The researcher used qualitative methods and Perrrine‘s theory in analyzing the figurative language in three poems Edgar Albert Guest‘s poems „Be a Friend‟, „A Friends Greeting‟, and „A Friend‟. The findings in this study show that figurative language metaphor and hyperbole dominate in three of Edgar Albert Guest‘s poems, and one imagery, two anaphora, two symbolism and one synecdoche. In this study also concluded that friendship is a meaningful thing for everyone, especially those who have best friends
