Abstract

The thesis is about Stephenie Meyer‘s novel. This novel is combination of romance and mystery, it tells about Edward Cullen and Bella love which is interrupted by Jacob Black. The main purpose of this thesis is to show the deconstruction by analyzing the binary opposition which is based on conflicts of main character. The binary opposition is based on external conflict. The external conflict occurs among Edward, Bella and Jacob Black. The data of this thesis is taken from a novel entitled Eclipse. This novel was analyzed by the writer to find out character, conflicts which occurred towards the main character and find out the deconstruction in Srephenie Meyer‘s Eclipse. The writer uses deconstruction approach to analyze this thesis. From the analysis the writer found the binary opposition from the conflict and deconstruction from binary opposition. The writer also finds that the truth is not absolute. From the deconstruction analysis the writer knows there is ambiguity from the texts. For example : Edward said ―Jacob is second in command. Did he never tell you that? He still young but his orders have to be followed, too.‖ (2010:239). In Jacob‘s flock, there are some members who are older than Jacob. Edward respected toward Jacob because his position. Edward feels that Jacob‘s command is very influential in the flock.
