Abstract

This thesis is entitled Conflicts As Reflected In F. Scott Fitzgerald‟s “The Great Gatsby” As A Structuralism Study. This study is aimed at explaining and analyzing the subject matter more deeply about intrinsic element of a literary work. Literary work such as novel is very interesting to be analyzed, because through novel the readers do not only to get entertain but also education. Intrinsic elements consist of some elements: character, setting, plot, conflict. The writer uses two kinds of methods which are applied in completing this thesis. They are method of the study and method of approach. The writer used library research as method of the study to investigate and collect the data or information through books or audio visual means by surfing through the internet. The second method is structuralism approach. This approach helps the writer to analyze characteristics of the main character, setting, plot, and conflicts in F. Scott Fitzgerald‟s “The Great Gatsby” in order to get a better understanding about the characters. The Great Gatsby is a story about Gatsby who has been obsessed with Daisy his girlfriend, who was married to another man. But Gatsby tries to get back Daisy, and lead the conflict in between them. After reading and analyzing deeply about structuralism approach of the main characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald “The Great Gatsby” it can be concluded that conflicts and the experiences which occur in person can change his or her attitude.
