Abstract
This study analyzes the mental state of the female character in the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman using a psychoanalytic theory approach. Through an in-depth analysis of the character's thoughts, feelings, and actions, it is found that the female character experiences helplessness, alienation, and loss of self-identity caused by the suppression and mistreatment of her psychological condition. This story reflects women's struggles against social constructions that limit their freedom and restrain their selfexpression. A psychoanalytic analysis of the female character in "The Yellow Wallpaper" can provide new insights into gender issues, mental health, and women's conditions in fighting their depression. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the representation of women's mental conditions in classic literature.
