Abstract

In this thesis the researcher concentrates on the main character of The Sun named Daisy. This research enforced Freudian’s theory that is Ego Defense Mechanism that is found in Daisy. The Sun was written by John Galsworthy in 1921. The aim of this research is to find out conflicts and ego defense mechanism of the main character, Daisy. The data of this research is the dialogues of The Sun drama. This research is categorized as a qualitative study that concentrates on words and the explanation of the dialogues. In this research, the researcher found that the main character experienced internal conflicts and external conflicts. The researcher also found out that the principal character experienced three kinds of ego defense mechanisms, namely reaction formation, repression, and rationalization
