Abstract

Rizal, Muhammad.2021. Focalization Analysis Applied in The Princess Bride Movie. A final project in partial fulfillment of the requirements for degree award of Sarjana Sastra in English Language and Literature, supervised by Sugeng Purwanto,MA,Dr FBIB-UNISBANK Semarang. This study aims to answer the statement of the problems: (1) what types of focalization are used in The Princess Bride movie, (2) how does the narrator knows everything regarding in the story.This study discusses focalization in The Princess Bride movie using Genette (1980) theory and this study uses qualitative method research. The researcher watched the movie, focused on the narrator’s utterance, analyzed the narrator’s part of the movie script, and then separated the narrator’s utterance which where analyzed to find out focalization applied in the movie. The results of the analysis showed that: (1) the researcher found that the narrator used zero focalization because the narrator was an omniscient narrator in the movie, (2) The narrator knows not only the character feelings, past, activities, but also the minor character feelings and activity. The narrator also knows about the situation, and the setting place of the story.
